Anonymous Bittorrent with I2P Basic How To and Downloads
Yes, it is possible to use Bittorrent anonymously, and yes people that have no business talking about anonymity will try to either split the hair about what "anonymous means". In short, what we mean is that you can use bittorrent without a coporate attacker revealing your IP, and its very likely even a highly funded government couldn't unmask you. In short, yes, you can use bittorrent anonymously.
This is not to be confused with perfect secretly, or in a manner that you simply hope no one will detect. No, what we are talking about are methods of a of using bittorrent so that your privacy is built into the network. True anonymity is having your identity stripped away, the two previous guides explain how to set that up with either the i2p or TOR networks. In the past, many many people have confused this with the percieved anonymity you have by hiding in the crowd, hiding behind a proxy, hoping that no one is logging your IP or with the difficulty some people have had in the past with associating an e-mail address, IM handle or IP address with a person. That is not being anonymous, thats just trying to be lucky. True anonymity is being unknown and unknownable unless you choose to reveal your real identity, and that is what we mean by anonymous.
For most Internet users this idea has been either misunderstood, or simply assumed to be impossible. For those that have been using things like Anonymous Remailers, we know that true anonymity (against most highly funded attackers) is not only possible, its something thats been around since the early 90's, and anonymous remailers have been sued, attacked by governments and by insiders, without loss of privacy or the exposure of any user. Yes, true anonymity is possible, its not a myth, its real. The two guides at the top of this page explain how to use Bittorrent anonymously. Enjoy.
